Romney recruits ex-Akin Gump lawyer to run VP hunt

Likely Republican US presidential nominee Mitt Romney has bagged former Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld litigation associate Beth Myers to conduct his search for a running mate.

According to The Am Law Daily, Ms Myers, a long-time Romney aide, is now a principal with Massachusetts-based consulting company Shawnut Group; Mr Romney is the former Massachusetts governor.

Vetting procedures

A spokeswoman for the campaign told the web site that it does not comment on vetting procedures, and Ms Myers has declined to comment on her appointment, apart from a tweet stating that she was ‘honoured’ to handle the search.
The news follows last month’s reports that President Barack Obama has recruited thousands of lawyers for his re-election campaign in response to worries over the handling of new voter identification laws.
