Samsung 'envied' iPhone, says Apple in showdown

Technology giant Apple has dropped the latest bombshell in the on-going patent trial against its South Korean rivals by releasing a 132-page internal Samsung report, which, claim the Californians, reveals Samsung's fixation with the iPhone device.

Text messages must begin with the word 'advertisement' and include a statement of the lawyer's qualifications

The document – successfully entered as evidence in the trial – was first published in March 2010 and compares Samsung’s Galaxy S1 device to Apple’s iPhone, reports the Tech Radar web site.

Typical analysis

Feature by feature, the report lists the ways in which the iPhone has the upper hand and also suggests ‘directions for improvement’ based on Apple’s products.
While Apple executives hope the document will support their view that Samsung are obsessed with the iPhone and iPad, the South Korean company has already claimed the report was part of ‘typical competitive analysis’ that is ‘routinely’ conducted by major companies.

More from down under

Meanwhile, in a similar trial being heard in Australia, Samsung have been warned by a Federal Court judge to rethink an allegation that Apple improperly influenced key witnesses.
Australian web site Mac World reports that Samsung lawyer Katrina Howard claimed it was it was ‘most inappropriate’ for Apple to discuss a change to a joint report written by three experts considering whether Californian’s devices infringe on Samsung’s 3G patents.
Justice Annabelle Claire Bennett told Ms Howard that she had made a ‘serious statement’ and that she might want to consider ‘what you want to do with that’.
