Jason Thompson -- a corporate law specialist at Milwaukee-based Michael Best & Friedrich – told potential voters that they ‘have the opportunity to send President Obama back to Chicago -- or Kenya.’ The comment was recorded on camera at weekend meeting of the Kenosha County Republican Party in Wisconsin, reports The Am Law Daily.
Regrettable comment
The comment dovetails with a number of suggestions made by public figures – most notably, property tycoon Donald Trump – that Mr Obama is not a born American citizen, despite the public disclosure of his birth certificate.
A Michael Best spokeswoman apologised in a statement over the weekend, saying, ‘one of our attorneys and the son of senatorial candidate Tommy Thompson made a regrettable comment at a campaign event for his father.’
Redistricting
Many of Michael Best’s attorneys are actively engaged in the Wisconsin political arena, including a controversial voting redistricting case that allegedly favoured Republican votes. The sitting Republican National Committee Chairman, Reince Priebus, is currently on leave from his role as a Michael Best litigation and corporate partner.
