Shell rejigs legal panel

Anglo-Dutch energy company Shell is to cut its single global legal panel and instead appoint separate firms in jurisdictions in accordance with its highest legal spend.

Shell: legal roster reshuffle

Legal Week reports that the move is part of a legal review at the company, which is also set to make it a requirement for firms to have an office in every jurisdiction in which they represent the company.

Global roster

According to the report, Shell sent out invitations last week to firms encouraging them to apply for work in 20 jurisdictions where the company has the greatest legal spend.
The move sees Shell step away from its five-firm global roster which included legal heavyweights including magic circle firms Clifford Chance and Allen & Overy.
Results of the current review are expected in April.
