The lawyer, reported in the local press only as M Ravi, has called for the entire council of the Law Society of Singapore to be forced to stand down by court order. He claims the society’s leadership has unfairly said that he is mentally not fit to practise.

Politically motivated

According to reports in the AsiaOne web site, Mr Ravi goes on to allege that the society’s claim is politically motivated, the result of an action he is involved in on behalf of a client who is bringing an action regarding a recent by-election against Singapore’s prime minister.  It is understood that Mr Ravi has also brought defamation proceedings against a senior officer of the local law society.
The Straits Times newspaper reports that the Law Society has scheduled the EGM for 24 September. According to the newspaper, the ruling body was forced to call the meeting after 51 of its members filed a motion for it to do so.
