A joint statement from the firms has made public their discussions. If it goes ahead, the merger will be interpreted as something of a rescue of Patton Boggs whose 'fortunes have faltered in recent years', according to the Wall Street Journal. Patton Boggs has recently had merger negotiations with other practices, including Dewey & LeBoeuf. Dewey filed for Chapter 11 protection in May 2012. Source: Wall Street Journal
