BP has appealed to the Supreme Court to change the way the compensation system is currently being managed over the Gulf of Mexico leak known as Deepwater Horizon. But, whatever the Supreme Court decides on that issue, it has just given a single sentence decision saying that the payments will be made before the court hands down its decision. An injunction has been in place since October, and BP wanted that to continue. BP said that the lifting of the injunction would ‘allow hundreds of millions of dollars to be irretrievably scattered to claimants whose losses were not plausibly caused by the Deepwater Horizon accident’.
