Telecoms giant gives employment advice to other businesses

BT, the UK telecoms provider, has begun offering employment legal advice to external businesses just over a year after setting up part of its legal team as an ABS (alternative business structure) called BT Law.

BT Law was set up in March 2013 and was quickly offering its personal injury service line to other companies. In May this year it acted for its first employment client. James Ward, one of 20 lawyers in the team, said: ‘As we see it, we’re a unique offering, because, as part of a large organisation, we are experienced in a broad range of people issues. Being seconded to BT Law means we can work more flexibly for a wide range of companies.  Because we are in-house lawyers, we can appreciate issues from a more pragmatic and commercial point of view than merely a strict legal perspective.’ Source: Legal Futures
