UK law firm collapses under new PI rules

The first UK law firm, niche practice Harris Cartier, has been put into administration under rules which took place on October 1 requiring them firms to have professional indemnity (PI) in place.

Another 175 or so firms are thought to be without cover and vulnerable to the rules which were introduced by the Solicitors Regulation Authority. The firm's assets were sold on immediately, under a 'pre-pack arrangement', to two other firms - Gordon Dadds and Neil Hudgell Solicitors. According to Insolvency News, Neil Hudgell Soliitors said it had bought a book with a 'seven-figure valuation' as well as the London office. The rest of the firm, along with eight solicitors specialising in company and commercial and other areas, went to Gordon Dadds.
