UK: wider scope

The London office of New York-headquartered law firm Weil Gotshal & Manges advised pro bono client Scope - one of the UK's most recognised charities - on the first issuance under its £20m bond programme.

Weil also advised Scope when it became one of the first UK charities to enter the capital markets, establishing and listing its innovative bond programme on the Euro MTF Market of the Luxembourg Stock Exchange in October 2011. Scope is a 60-year-old charity that focuses on assisting those with cerebral palsy.
The Weil team, led by partner James Cole, will assist Scope to use the £2m issue to invest in its income generation activities, including fundraising programmes to grow its supporter base and expand its network of charity shops, both of which generate long-term sustainable sources of income for its work with disabled people.
