US law schools are starting to slash law school tuition fees with the Roger Williams University School of Law the latest to announce a cut. The Rhode Island law school will reduce fees from $41,400 to $33,792 for the next school year. Meanwhile the University of Iowa has reduced its fees by 16 per cent whilst Pennsylvania State has reduced its fees by nearly 50 per cent for in-state residents.
No bar exam
The cost cuttings come as the Iowa State Court is looking at a proposal to allow graduates of Iowa's two law schools to skip the bar exam if they practice law in the state - following in the footsteps of Wisconsin. Iowa is looking to save money for students by shortening the time between when a student graduates and takes the bar exam. According to the ABA Journal, only 6.8 per cent of law graduates fail the exam and most passed on the second sitting. The students would have to sit an ethics exam and take a cass on Iowa law and procedure. Source: ABA Journal
