Victor Dahdaleh wins US case

Businessman Victor Dahdeleh has won a US court victory in a series of cases which have proved embarrassing for Akin Gump.

Norton Rose Fulbright has seen its client Victor Dahdeleh win a US court victory in a series of cases against Aluminium Bahrain kemot7

A US court has now dismissed a US$1b suit against him from Aluminium Bahrain, ordering that the parties should go to arbitration. After the US proceedings were first launched in 2008, the UK’s Serious Fraud Office (SFO) began a prosecution. This became mired in controversy - as the SFO admitted that it had, in effect, outsourced some of its investigations to Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. Matters were complicated again when an Akin Gump lawyer refused to give evidence in the hearing, as planned. A  London jury was ordered to return a no-guilt verdict on the UK case in December. Allen & Overy had also represented Mr Dahdeleh at one stage and also played a controversial role. Williams and Connelly and DeForest Koscelnik acted for Mr Dahdaleh in the US proceedings.

Delighted

Speaking through Norton Rose, Mr Dahdeleh said after the US decision: ‘I am delighted that this case in the US has now been dismissed following my successful acquittal in the UK. It should have been dismissed long ago.’Source: Financial Times
