Patrick Morissey, Attorney General of West Virginia, is seeking restitution for VW customers. He claims they paid as much as US$6,855 extra for cars with the clean diesel engines, as well as US$5,000 in civil penalties per violation of West Virginia’s consumer protection law.
Criminal investigation
Volkswagen faces a criminal investigation by the US Justice Department and a joint investigation by at least 45 states under environmental and consumer-protection laws.
