Weil Gotshal & Manges has seen a trio of high-profile partner departures in as many days as two leading life science and techology litigators head to Paul Weiss in New York and its bankruptcy co-chair heads to Latham & Watkins.

The exits include Elizabeth Stotland Weiswasser and Anish Desai, who are joining Paul Weiss as partners in its litigation department, with Stotland Weiswasser taking up the role of co-chair. Meantime, restructuring lawyer Ray Schrock is moving to Latham, the WSJ reported.

Stotland Weiswasser and Desai are nationally recognised litigators with a track record of success representing life sciences and tech clients in a range of commercial disputes. Stotland Weiswasser specialises in pharma, biotech and medical device disputes, as well as transactional matters. Desai is a first-chair trial lawyer with experience across the tech and life sciences sectors in federal courts, the US International Trade Commission and arbitration proceedings.

Brad Karp, Paul Weiss chairman, said: “We are delighted to welcome Liz and Anish, two of the most respected litigators in the country with a proven track record in high-stakes disputes, particularly in the life sciences, healthcare and technology industries. Their broad-ranging litigation experience and strategic counsel will bolster our litigation capabilities and benefit our clients seeking sophisticated solutions to their most challenging business issues.”

Stotland Weiswasser arrives after just over 30 years at Weil, where she has spent her entire career in private practice. She became co-head of patent litigation in 2017 and then global co-chair of its litigation department in 2022.

Desai departs Weil after more than 16 years and just shy of his 10-year anniversary as a partner. He was previously an associate at McDermott Will & Emery, where he started his legal career back in 2005.

Schrock, meantime, leaves Weil after 10 years with the firm, where he was co-chair of its restructuring department and also a member of its global management committee. He previously spent just short of a decade as a partner at Kirkland & Ellis and just under six years at Jones Day, where he started his career in private practice.

Schrock’s departure follows the exit of Paris restructuring and solvency team co-head Anne-Sophie Noury, who left to lead White & Case’s Paris restructuring team in August.

It has not all been one-way traffic for Weil. In September, it continued to build out its private funds team with the arrival of Karen Chao from Goodwin Procter in New York, its fourth private funds partner hire since late 2023. In July, the firm also hired a pair of private equity partners from Latham to open offices in Los Angeles and San Francisco.
