Aloke Ray, who is head of White & Case’s international arbitration practice in Asia, and Charoo Sekhri, who are originally from India, live in Singapore but have been arguing over which country to pursue their divorce proceedings in. Each of them had spent a ‘staggering’ £430,000 on legal fees out of their combined wealth of £4 million, the judge said.

Fair provision should be made

He said that ‘somewhere’ Mr Ray would have to make ‘fair provision’ for Ms Sekhri and that their ‘sustained forensic struggle’ had ben ‘painful to observe’. The judge implored the couple, who had met online via a dating agency in 2008 and married a year later, to resolve their differences in this tragic case and he ruled that Ms Sekhri could pursue divorce proceedings in England.
