White & Case has hired a partner from Deloitte Legal for the new global role of chief innovation officer.

Isabel Parker has joined the firm in London after a two-year stint at Deloitte, having earlier held the CIO role at Magic Circle firm Freshfields.

Joining alongside Parker is New York-based Jason Hill, who will serve as chief marketing officer. Together the duo will assume roles previously held by Michael Hertz, the firm's longstanding CMO who also oversaw the innovation platform beginning in 2020.

For his part Hill was previously at Goldman Sachs, where he was managing director and chief operating officer for global marketing.

“Jason and Isabel’s superior credentials and track records give us confidence that marketing and innovation will continue to be strategic contributors to the firm’s growth,” said White & Case chair Heather McDevitt. “We welcome their leadership and fresh perspectives.”

Parker is expected to lead the firm’s business intelligence, practice technology, research and market intelligence, and knowledge management functions.

“Innovation is a global challenge, and White & Case is unafraid to break new ground,” said Parker. “I am excited to connect the firm’s portfolio of analysts, researchers and technologists with client feedback to build solutions that meet our clients’ most critical needs.

“Any legal technology, including GenAI, is only powerful in the hands of knowledgeable and experienced lawyers,” Parker added. “White & Case is well positioned to capitalise on the promise of the rapidly evolving legal tech stack, and offer new services for clients and the market more broadly.”

Before joining Deloitte Legal at the start of 2023 Parker spent more than 15 years at Freshfields, initially as a finance lawyer before transitioning to a role as programme lead for legal services and rising to become chief legal innovation officer. At Deloitte, she worked within the firm's Transform to Operate service to help clients get better business outcomes from their core, high-volume legal activities.

Meantime Hill has spent the past six years at Goldman Sachs, before which he was global head of media at BlackRock and global director for media and content strategy at GE. At White & Case he is expected to lead the firm's efforts aimed at driving growth and enhancing its external reputation through oversight of branding and creative services, business development, client service programs, marketing technology and the communications teams.

The duo's appointments are effective immediately. White & Case said Hertz, who has served as CMO since 2010, was transitioning to a senior advisor role within the firm.
