Top 10 US firm White & Case has elevated 37 lawyers to partner in its latest promotions round, a slight drop on the 42 that made partner a year ago.

The number of new partners has now been falling every year since 2021’s record promotion round, when 59 were welcomed into the partnership. The latest cohort saw eight women make partner, just under 22% of the total – down from 36% last year and 52% the year before.

Regionally, the new class saw 13 make the cut in the Americas, 22 in EMEA and two in Asia Pacific. Just under a third of the new partners are based in the US, with three a piece in Miami and New York, two in Chicago and Washington DC, and one each in Houston and Los Angeles. The Paris office saw the most promotions, with seven making the grade including project development and finance lawyer Quirec de Kersauson and capital markets lawyer Tatiana Uskova.

London saw three promotions – M&A lawyers Joseph Bradley and Angus Nunn, and construction lawyer Paddy Mohen – while Dubai and Singapore both saw two each. The rest of the promotions were spread across the firm’s Mexico City, Berlin, Riyadh, Abu Dhabi, Geneva, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Madrid, Prague, Brussels and Stockholm offices.

The firm’s M&A practice has the most new partners, with 13 promotions spread across eight countries. That was followed by four in its project development and finance practice and four in its financial restructuring and insolvency practice, three a piece in commercial litigation and international arbitration, and two each in its trade, tax, antitrust and capital markets practices. There was also a single promotion each in its investment funds and construction practices.

The promotions come into effect on 1 January.

The firm has also been active in the lateral market, earlier this month hiring Isabel Parker from Deloitte Legal as chief innovation officer, and in September, hiring Shinsuke Yakura from Orrick to launch a disputes practice in Tokyo.
