Withers continues rapid expansion phase with launch of Tokyo tax practice

The 150-partner law firm, fresh from expanding on the east and west coasts of the US, is adding an affiliate office in Japan which will specialise in corporate tax.

Withers now runs to 17 offices and a personnel list of about 1,000 people. The Tokyo office will be called Withers Japan, Zeirishi Houjin. Margaret Robinson, managing director of Withers, said: 'We are...very excited to add an affiliate office in Japan to our network, and anticipate that it will result in new ways of working with clients across Asia and the US west coast, where we are also investing in substantial growth.' 

Singapore

Corporate tax advisers Chizuko Tomita (formerly a tax partner in EY) and Takeo Mizutani (formerly of White & Case) will head Withers Japan. Another new recruit, Eric Roose - who joins from Morrison & Foerster -  will head up the Withers International Corporate Tax practice in Asia. He will be based in Singapore. Source: Withers
