Despite the small number of women lawyers in the Indian Bar, Justice P Sathasivam - Judge of Supreme Court – claimed that there is an equivalent ratio of men and women in law school, but the ratio swings greatly towards men further up the ladder.

Mr Justice Sathasivam told The Hindu that the legal profession must be more conductive for women lawyers, especially in vital matters such as domestic violence, gender discrimination, child abuse and violence related to women and children.
Speaking at the Golden Jubilee of the Women Lawyers’ Association, Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifulla said: ‘Women exploitation is a reality, gender justice is fragile myth. Women’s emancipation lies in their education and awareness of their rights.’
